Speed Racer and Metamorpho

Speed Racer the movie was not a huge hit at the box office, and is not without its flaws, but there's no denying that it had some amazing and unique visuals.  Maybe it just came out a few years too early.  Perhaps a Speed Racer film would be more well received today, now that superhero movies and the Fast and Furious franchise are so popular.

Admittedly off topic, but...

You do a lot of tie ins to movie events that never were. WHat about a cover of a comic series based on an Avengers type movie with 80s (maybe early 90s) movie properties.

A lot of them even have had comics made about them. Skynet could be the Villain.

Of course, you would have to include Highlander.

And for something on tops, another great post.

I don't know, Ross. They'd have to do a lot of talent scouting to find someone even remotely close to the vocal versatility of the late, great Jack Grimes as Sparky and Chim-Chim. That is; in a feature-length animated remake. For a live-action remake, they'd more likely have to split the roles between two separate actors. For example; Deep Roy as Chim-Chim and Matthew Lillard as Sparky.

They could always do motion-capture CGI for Chim-Chim, similar to the recent POTA trilogy. Thereby allowing Lillard (or whoever else got cast) to still do a second voice-over.

Building on the idea of first Anon:

Skynet downloads its consciousness into Ultron. Or Amazo. Or both.

I second Kid Charlemagne's motion.

"Racer Rex." I see what you did there.

I always thought that Racer X's (aka Rex Racer's) racing outfit looked more like a superhero costume.

If I understand the first Anonymous correctly, he's suggesting an Avengers type team made up of movie superhero characters like Darkman, Bruce Willis's character in Unbreakable, Hancock, Meteor Man, the Toxic Avenger, G-Girl from My Super Ex-Girlfriend etc. If so, I'm all for it!

Regarding this cover, I like it a lot. I like even more knowing without even looking that Spritle and Chim-Chim are in the trunk of the Mach 5....

Cary - They could always get Frank Welker. In regards to voice acting, what he can't do can't be done.

General - I've been wondering lately about Rex... if he's such a "non-scholarly type," how did he come up with a fancy name like Metamorpho?

He probably thought it was a Spanglish term (like those linguistic "geniuses" who confuse "hombre" with "mano").

Maybe Largo Sludge from the 90's Speed Racer could meet Sly Sludge from Captain Planet. They are kinda similar.

Bob G.: Actually, it was Sapphire Stagg who came up with the name "Metamorpho" in Brave & Bold #58. Initially, she wasn't the "dumb blonde" archetype that she later became.

And Rex isn't all that "non-scholarly." He does have a degree in archaeology. At least, I think he does...

Rex Mason or Rex Racer?

In this case, I think it's the white-faced dude with the purple "body." ;-)
